The ecosystem surrounding the manufacturing sector includes physical as well as soft elements. There exist significant gaps in this which affect the ability of the industry to operate competitively. E.g., lack of scale in manufacturing, lack of integration of the value chains, difficulty in accessing facilities like water, power, effluent disposal and treatment, etc in the most effective manner.

We help in addressing the lack of scale by helping SMEs come together in a cluster format and gain from sharing of the facilities and aggregating their capacities, as well as enhancing value addition. These clusters also have industry-specific common infrastructure, like water supply, effluent treatment, ready to use buildings, and support facilities like testing labs and skill centres to make them a self contained industrial environment,

We also help the Governments in framing appropriate policies for development of specific sectors and in implementing such policies.

We place high emphasis on providing solutions that are customized to the industry / cluster. Our solutions are mix of domain expertise, policy understanding and infrastructure design experience.

CDI advises Governments in investment promotion and facilitation through Program Management Units set up for specific sectors. We advise on policy formulation and tailoring the investor outreach to address the needs of the industry. This is done through a strong understanding of the factor conditions and linkages that impact the competitiveness of a state and locations within the state. Through our strong networks with industry and associations, we help the State Governments in reaching out to the industry and facilitating interactions, site visits and structuring appropriate incentive packages.

Our investment facilitation service is aimed at medium to large industries that are looking at expansion through capacity addition. Here, we work with the industry in evaluating states, sites and locations from perspective of adequate linkages, availability of key factor conditions and their cost, to help them zero in on the right location. Coupled with our understanding of the Government policies, we are best placed to advise industry in leveraging the right policy for their business needs.

At CDI, we have strong understanding of how Government policies are shaped, outcomes are targeted, and implementation is carried out. An important aspect of development policies is measuring the baseline, identifying the gaps, setting outcome targets and assessing the impact. With experience of implementing more than a dozen programs for the Central and State Governments, CDI has deep understanding of the policy development lifecycle.

As part of our M&E offering, we provide services to Governments, Donor Agencies and Institutions in baseline surveys, gap identification, target setting and impact assessment. CDI has implemented large programs which aim at developing value chains based on a local commodity or craft to generate higher incomes to the producers / growers at the bottom of the pyramid. We believe in creating compact value chains by providing linkages which help in local value addition through processing, design intervention, capacity building, formation of producers’ collectives like producer organizations, FPOs, societies, etc. These are further supported through market linkages by connecting to offline as well as online retailers.
